Fishing in Madgascar
In recent years, Madagascar has attracted attention primarily for its sensational catches of large giant trevally. But this world-class area should not be reduced to that alone. In addition to fishing for GTs, jigging is also top notch here. Some of the largest dogtooth tunas in the world swim here, and every season there are catches of giant Napoleon wrasse and coral trout. When fishing for GT, loud poppers are the best bait due to the depth!
Best time to travel: March/April – October/November
Best fishing spots
1. Cap d’Ambre & Baie du Courrier (northwest)
This remote region is often referred to as the “Jurassic Park” of GT fishing. GTs weighing over 60 kg have been caught here. The area is characterized by numerous islands, reefs, and strong tidal currents, which provide ideal conditions for large fish. Only the wind can severely affect fishing here.
2. Mitsio Archipelago (north of Nosy Be)
Known as the “Island of Pain,” this area offers a variety of hotspots for GTs, dogtooth tuna, and other large fish. The region is practically a pure jigging destination and offers an impressive diversity of species.
3. Radama Islands (south of Nosy Be)
This archipelago is less fished and therefore offers excellent chances of catching large GTs. The combination of reefs, sandbanks, and deep water is perfect here. The lodge, which is offered exclusively by Travel2Fish, leaves nothing to be desired and makes for a dream vacation.
