Fishing Ascension Island

Ascension Island is probably one of the dream spots for popping and jigging anglers. The Atlantic around the island is a huge protected area in which commercial fishing is prohibited. So it’s no wonder that the fishing here is unique in the Atlantic.

When popping, huge yellowfin pounce on the bait (large tuna can be caught here even from the shore!) and large amberjacks can also be caught again and again. The same applies to jigging, where there are places where a fish is hooked with practically every drop. Ascension is a year-round destination for jigging, popping and bottom fishing. Special note: Ascension is an absolutely exceptional area, which demands a certain resilience from the angler. You don’t have to be a trained 10-man fighter, but you should have a certain level of fitness. Fishing in particular can be very strenuous, especially as – depending on the swell – the drills can be even more difficult.

Ascension is certainly a dream destination and will hopefully be accessible again soon. Our partner Travel2Fish will definitely be ready when the time comes.
