Fishing Colombia

Until recently, Colombia was still a white spot on the map, concerning fishing with jigs and poppers. But this has changed drastically: the reports of great catches, of practically all interesting fishes in the Pacific, have made Colombia a sought-after destination.
Whether it’s popping or jigging, good catches are practically guaranteed! In particular the short access routes and the constant weather make Colombia a real hot spot, which should be visited, before this area is also exposed to a high fishing pressure.

Best spots

1. Bahía Solano & El Valle (Chocó Department)

• Highlights: Premier for offshore big-game fishing—yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi, wahoo, marlin, sailfish. 

• Inshore action: Roosterfish, cubera snapper, jacks, tarpon, snook in estuaries. Thanks to conservation fish stocks here are thriving.

2. Nuquí (Chocó)

• Dense mangroves, estuaries, and surf reefs produce strong inshore and nearshore catches—roosterfish, snapper, jacks, and occasional billfish 

• Excellent ecotourism + fishing combo.

3. Golfo Tribugá (Northern Chocó)

• Pristine waters along the jungle coast with diverse species: mahi, wahoo, dorado, sailfish, marlin, jacks .

• Sardine migrations (April–June) draw in schools of yellowfin tuna
