
Tuna Fishing in Mallorca
Mallorca is one of the fishing destinations for Bluefin Tuna and Little Tunnies in Europe. These pelagic fish are abundant in the waters around the Balearic Islands. Especially at the Banco, in spring and autumn, the catch of big bluefins is hihly possible. In addition there is the chance to catch nice Amberjack and John Dorys while jigging.
From shore good catches of sea bass and leerfish are also possible in autumn.
Recommended months: March/April and September/October.
Best fishing spots:
1. Cap de Formentor (Northeast)
- Spot profile: Steep, dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters. Very deep close to shore (over 50 m quickly reached).
- Fishing: Rock fishing from cliffs, perfect for shore jigging.
2. Palma Bay
- Spot profile: Large, sheltered bay with sandy and pebble beaches.
- Fishing: Spin fishing for seabass and leerfish.
3. Cala Ratjada & East Coast
- Spot profile: Rugged rocky coastline with small coves. Quickly dropping depth, clear water.
- Fishing: Spinning, light jigging from the rocks.
4. Port d’Andratx & Southwest Coast
- Spot profile: Deep rocky coastline. Over 100 m deep right offshore.
- Fishing: The place to charter a boat for tuna fishing or jigging for amberjack.
