Tuna Fishing in Italy
The Adriatic coast of Italy is one of the fishing grounds for Bluefin Tuna and Little Tunnies. For catching these sea sprinters there is hardly a better place around Europe. Especially in spring and autumn good catches are possible here on popper and stickbait, in addition there is then also the chance to catch big bluefish on light tackle.
It is best to book a trip with faster boats, because the feeding frenzies of the tunas often take place far out.
Recommended months: March/April and September/October
Best fishing spots:
1. Ancona & Conero Riviera
- Deep water starts just 3-4 nautical miles offshore.
- Frequent sardine schools attract Bluefin tuna and bonito.
- Wild frenzies in late autumn
2. Rimini & Cesenatico
- Accessible waters with many charter boats available.
- Lots of Little Tunny in summer and big bluefins in spring.
3. Giulianova & Pescara
- Deeper water nearby, no need to travel far.
- Tuna often come to the surface early mornings or evenings.
4. Tremiti Islands
- Clear water and less fishing pressure compared to other areas.
- Perfect for popping, jigging – big fish possible.
