Tunafishing in France

As in the entire Mediterranean, bluefin tuna fishing has improved significantly in France in recent years. There are now a large number of professional guides on the French coast who can help you hunt these ocean sprinters. Be sure to bring some small bait with you, as tuna can be very selective eaters!

Best fishing spots

• Côte d’Azur (Nice, Cannes, Saint-Tropez)

  • Summer migration of large bluefin tuna along the coast.

  • The region with most charter – be sure to book in advance in season

  • Best season: June to October.

• Golfe du Lion (Montpellier to Marseille)

  • Deep, nutrient-rich waters attract tuna.

  • Especially the region around the mouth of the Rhone can be spectecular for topwater fishing

  • Season: June to Ocotber.

• Îles d’Hyères (Porquerolles, Port-Cros)

  • Islands offer access to deeper waters perfect for bluefin.

  • Best time: summer months.
