Angeln Griechenland

Fishing in Greece

With its long coastline and countless islands, Greece has some of the best potential for catching big fish from the shore in the Mediterranean. The islands in the Peloponnese in particular offer spin anglers without a boat the chance to catch fish weighing over 10 kilograms. At the right time of year, large sea bass, amberjack, and bluefish are on the move. There is also plenty to offer offshore: in autumn, large bluefin tuna migrate along the coast, and in spring, dentex and grouper can be caught by jigging.

Recommended months: March/April/September/October

Best fishing spots:

1. Crete:

The coastline of Crete offers numerous rocky areas that are ideal for shore jigging. The best spots are the port of Souda and the north coast. Barracudas can be caught along the entire coast in the evening hours.

2. Peloponnese

There are many interesting structures in the Peloponnese. The rocky coastline near Nafplio is ideal for shore jigging. Here you can catch various predatory fish such as grouper and dentex.

3. Rhodes:

The island of Rhodes offers numerous bays and rocky coastlines that are ideal for jigging. In autumn, mahi mahi migrate to some coastal areas.

4. Chalkidiki:

The three peninsulas of Chalkidiki offer numerous coastal areas that are ideal for shore jigging. There are still good stocks of gold blotch grouper here.

5. Corfu:

The coasts of Corfu offer numerous opportunities for jigging. Large amberjacks migrate through the channel between Corfu and the neighboring island of Paxos during the winter months.
