Seabass fishing Normandy
In late summer and autumn the Normandy is one of the best grounds for shore fishing seabass and other cold water predators in Europe. Because of the rocky shoreline and the extreme tides your best option are shallow running lures when you target seabass. Besides this aspect the Normandy also offers interesting options for jigging, especially slow-jigging allows you good catches. In the last years there was an increased occurrence of Bluefin Tunas during the summer.
1. Mont Saint-Michel Bay
- Features: This iconic UNESCO World Heritage site offers unique fishing conditions due to its extreme tidal range. Sea bass are often found in the channels and around the sandbanks.
- Techniques: Spinning with surface lures like poppers and walkers or soft plastics is highly effective. Fishing during the tidal flow is key.
- Tips: Focus on areas where baitfish are forced into narrow channels by the tide. Early mornings or evenings yield the best results. Don’t be afraid to fish real shallow parts.
2. Cap de la Hague
- Spot: The rugged coastline and strong tidal currents at Cap de la Hague make it a haven for large sea bass. The rocky seabed is perfect for these predators.
- Techniques: Softbait fishing with Fiish Black Minnows around the kelp beds or with shore jigs around the cape area.
- Tips: Use heavier gear to handle the strong currents and rocky terrain. Fish in the channel entrances.
3. Étretat (Alabaster Coast)
- Spot: The stunning chalk cliffs and pebble beaches of Étretat provide excellent conditions for shore fishing. The mix of rocky outcrops and sandy patches attracts sea bass.
- Techniques: Light spinning with soft plastics or crankbaits in natural colors mimicking sprattes.
- Tips: Fish near the rocks at low tide or during the incoming tide for the best chance of hooking sea bass hunting along the shoreline.
4. Barfleur
- Spot: A charming fishing village with a rocky coastline and kelp beds, perfect for targeting sea bass and ballan wrasse.
- Techniques: Spinning with Black Eels around Gatteville or with floating minnows around the coastal stretch to Reville. Fishing during low tide bring the best results.
- Tips: The early mornings in late summer provide excellent fishing around Ile Tatihou with many feeding frenzies to be seen. Check out this charter for Barfleur:
